“Fi-fi-fo-fum! I smell the blood of an English man!”
Ah yes. Goose bumps every time.
In case you haven’t noticed, we’re big fans of Jack and the Beanstalk at Kids Nook. It’s one of the very first stories we ever told, and it’s continued to be one of our staples. So when we found a retelling of this classic tale from one of our favorite publishers, Barefoot Books, we just couldn’t resist!
By now you’re probably pretty familiar with the abbreviated version of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Jack sells his cow for some magic beans, his mom gets angry and throws them away, the beans grow up into the sky where Jack finds a mean, nasty, no-good giant, he takes the giant’s things, vanquishes the giant, the end.
What you may not know is that there are a few, more elaborate version of Jack and the Beanstalk. The writers here tell that story, bringing a familiar twist to the story we’ve heard many times.
This accompanied by a sense of humor and unique illustrations makes this version of Jack and the Beanstalk fun for both the child and the adults reading.
There’s even a little twist on the ending… but I won’t show you that here. You’re just going to have to pick up a copy of this lovely fairy tale yourself!
