I’ll admit I’m a sucker for old folk tales. As a child I devoured Aesop’s Fables, stories about Greek and Egyptian gods, and the adventures of Anansi the spider. But this one, The Talkative Tortoise had me on the edge of my seat!
The Talkative Tortoise
by Andrew Fusek Peters
Once, a very long time ago, there was a Tortoise who had a beautifully smooth, shiny shell… and man did he love to talk! The only animals who would even listen to him were his two geese friends.
One day though, the geese tell him they’re going to leave. Winter is coming, and they can’t stay here. “Take me with you!” the Tortoise cries. He wants to stay with his great listener friends.
The geese hold a stick between them and tell Tortoise he can come with them if he hangs on… but this means he can’t talk at all.
Even though Tortoise keeps seeing such amazing things, can he keep his mouth shut so he doesn’t fall? Find out in this wonderful children’s story!
