One of our favorite stories here at Kids Nook is hands-down The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. In this classic story the Caterpillar goes and eats lots and lots of yummy food, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to invite famous Turkish chef Yasemin Ustay to teach our kids how to make some great cookies!
One of the most beloved children’s stories, both here in Turkey and around the world, is The Little Prince. This lovely tale about seeing the world through the eyes of a child and how an individual, no matter what that person is like, is valued as much as the masses has affected us for generations. We shared this story at Kids Nook, and we’ve decided we want to share it with you as well!
We started off our story by having the children close their eyes and imagine what it would look like if an anaconda swallowed an entire elephant!
Then we told the tale of a Little Prince who loved his rose and helped save the life of a pilot.
For our activities we had the children draw what they thought an elephant inside an anaconda looks like…
Then we planted our own roses!
Happy exploring friends!
It’s been a while since I’ve heard the story of Pinocchio, the earnest little puppet who wants to be a real boy, so it was a real joy to see how our storyteller Ayşegül interpreted the story. She even had her own little Pinocchio puppet!
Don’t forget his little shoes!
Have you heard the story of the Ugly Duckling? You know, the one where a duckling doesn’t look, or act, like a duckling? The story where the duckling has to go out and find out exactly what he really is, only to discover he’s not a duckling at all?
You have? Us too! And we love telling this story to children of all ages!
Afterwards we went and created our own little duckling wheels!
Happy swimming everyone!
What’s better for crisp weather than a spooky story by a campfire? Here in Istanbul we’ve been having pretty mild weather, so we figured what better opportunity to have a campfire party?
We told the story of Hansel and Gretel…
And some of it was a little shocking!
But that’s alright! Because afterwards we were able to roast marshmallows and sausages together!
Happy camping friends! Stay warm!
Is there anything more fun than hosting a party for a group of lovely princesses? If there is, we don’t know what it is yet! But before any princess goes to a party, she has to get ready!
First we made “facial masks” with lemon, cucumber, and honey…
Then afterwards we put on our beautiful dresses and painted our nails! Next we created wonderful cakes for our party…
Then we listened to the story of Cinderella! Was Cinderella going to be able to outsmart her evil stepmother and silly stepsisters? We were on the edge of our seats waiting to find out!
After storytime we had some great snacks, like cookies shaped like teddy bears and lemonade.
Then as a way to commemorate our wonderful time we decorated our own pillow dolls to look like our favorite princesses!
The party was wonderful and glamorous, but we couldn’t have done it without our beautiful princesses!
Just in time for Valentine’s Day comes one of our favorite stories… The Frong Prince!
Are you guys ready for the weekend? We sure are! Take a look below the cut to see what kind of fun things we have in store!
Now normally we keep our updates to just Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but we had so much fun today getting ready for our program tomorrow that I wanted to share it with you.
Tomorrow we will host Sara Şahinkanat, famous Turkish children’s author, as she tells her story “Three Cats, One Wish.” It’s a sweet story about three cats who look out for each other while they wait for a shooting star so they can make their own special wish…
To get ready we made our own little puppets…
We can’t wait for tomorrow! We’ll keep you updated, and we’ll see you next week!
