As much fun as it is to day-dream and to work out your imagination, some times you need to be in the real world.
This week we meet Oliver, a happy boy with a big imagination but a bit of a problem.

Note: This is a repost of our super fun Christmas party activities from last year. They included lots of food, awesome pajamas, and toilet paper games 🙂Â
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Kids Nook! To celebrate the occassion we hosted a very special pajama holiday party, featuring the classic story The Polar Express!Â
Of course we ate too much food…
Made our own special Christmas pillow buddies…
And of course, drank hot chocolate!
Have a great year!
Do you love making funny noises? Do you spend your time listening to different accents just because you love to? Well you may not, but I sure do! That’s probably why I loved reading about the adventures of Harold, a mischevious parrot in a big city!

Yesterday we shared a preview of a story about a girl who says nothing EVER happens to her… sound familiar moms and dads? We all fall victim to boredom every once in a while, especially kids. But thanks to the internet, you never have to be at a loss for what to do again. Here are five boredom busting games that you can share with your kids the next time they start getting a little antsy.
3. Reusable Gak/Bubble Blowing
4. “Sumo Wrestling” (great for boys!)Â
Kick that boredom in the tush guys!
*sigh*
Don’t you just feel like sometimes nothing interesting ever happens to you? It doesn’t matter if we’re five years old or Indiana Jones, there are just sometimes when we can’t really see what’s in front of us.
That’s what this week’s book is about: Never Ever by Jo Empson.
Families are weird. My family loves to sit around the living room and speak to each other in funny voices. My brother’s room is messy and my dad has a collection of bizarre antique pens in an old cedar box. But the thing is, even though my family is a little strange, it’s MY kind of strange, and I love them all the same!
This week we read about a similarly strange family in Yuck! That’s Not a Monster! by Angela McAllister and Alison Edgson.
Have you ever looked at the people around you and thought to yourself: “Wow! I am the best!” It’s okay if you have; we’re all the best at something. You can be the  best artist at school, the best at math, or even the best pizza eater! But chances are you have some friends who are better at somethings than you are.
This week’s story is about a little dog who thinks he’s the best at EVERYTHING.
I’m the Best by Lucy Cousins
This week’s book is one of my (Elizabeth) personal favorites. As a former English teacher I always enjoy reading stories that get creative with commas (in an artistic way of course)!
Orange Bear Apple Pear
by Emily Gravett
When this book first arrived at our store, I found myself drawn to it’s unique art and colorful cover. However this little book is much more than that. It’s an interesting look at creative spirits and the lasting impression they can have on their community, as well as a touching tale of grieving.
