Old McDonald Activities

Old McDonald had a farm, ee-ii-ee-ii- Oh? What is all this?┬áNew┬ágames for Old McDonald’s Farm? Let’s take a look!

First, we made sure that our farm dirt was nice and muddy by spraying water into it!

Next we let the animals play in the mud a little bit…

Then we had to clean them up!

They were also really badly in need of a shave, so we covered them in shaving creme…

And gave them a good shave, without popping a single one!

It was a fun, messy day, and we can’t wait to see what the next week brings!

Happy farming!

Play Time for Puppy

Our latest story was based on another fun one from the Hello Genius series,┬áPlay Time for Puppy. In this story we meet an energetic little puppy who loves to play with his toys and his friends. In the spirit of playtime, we created our own little toys from flour and salt…. but not before we did some extra playing around first!

Ever Been to a Farm?

Have you ever been to a farm? When you live in a big city like Istanbul it’s a bit difficult to find one, so here at Kids Nook we try to give the kids the full farming experience with our Old McDonald sensory games.

om1

First we have them build farms for all the animals, including Mommy Animals and Baby Animals.

om2

Then as thanks, the chickens give us eggs…

om3

The cows gave us milk…

om4

And we made some great cakes! Yum!

What kind of farm games do you like to play? Let us know in the comments below!

There Was an Old Lady…

There was an Old Lady… with some really strange eating habits. That being said, just look at the size of her tummy!

lol1

Of course, we had to be kind to our guest, so we fed her some flies, some spiders…

lol4

And then some even bigger animals!

I hope she’s okay getting home! Tell us, have you met this old lady? Don’t you think her diet is a little strange? What kind of weird things do you like to eat? Tell us in the comments below!

Jungle Links to Get You Swinging!

Earlier this week I told you about our great imaginary trip to the Amazon Rainforest, where we started the story of the Little Prince. Well I thought that this was a great opportunity to share that experience with all of you! Check out some of these great links that can turn your little child’s world into an amazing jungle exploration!

1) Jungle Preschool Activities

The folks over at Cutting Tiny Bites had a whole week devoted to Jungle Adventures, and they were lovely enough to share some of their great experiences with us! I’m particularly impressed with their living room Vine Crawl myself čÖé

2) Jungle Swamp Sensory Bin

This is a great sensory tub activity that will keep your kids entertained for hours! Just make sure to set it up outside or in a place that you don’t mind getting messy!

3) Animal Tracks Are Not Alike!

Put those plastic animals to good use and help your kids discover how not animals are the same, even down to the shape of their toes!

4) Color-Sequencing Snakes

Help your kids with their fine motor skills and color sequencing with this awesome pipe-cleaner snake craft! It’s Ssssssimply Ssssstunning čÖé

5) Elephant Color Blocking

What jungle adventure is complete without a visit from Elemer the colorful elephant? You can help color in his great thick skin with your own little colored squares!

Happy exploring everyone!

What Do We See? A Brown Bear!

How many animals and colors could you recognize? Well thanks to Eric Carle’s┬áBrown Bear┬áthe kids here at Sensory Storytime know quite a few!

brown bear 4We read the story together and then afterwards took our own little Brown Bears (and his friend the Black Sheep) out for some special activities.

brown bear 1Mmm-mmm! What’s more appetizing than eating treats in a special color sequence?

(Inter)Stellar Links!

I’ve had a love affair with space ever since I was seven and I saw the Millennium Falcon go into hyper-space for the first time. I relished doing space activities both as a student and as a teacher, so of course I was drawn to space crafts on Pinterest. Look below to see some of my favorite activites and see if anything catches your eye!

Sparkly Space Playdough! We play with a lot of kinetic sand, clay, and other fun kinds of sculpting toys here at Kids Nook, and I can imagine nothing better than jazzing it up to look like the brilliant night sky!

Anyone else wanna visit the planets within the comfort of your own home? Try this great Solar System in a Box activity from Playful Learning (complete with a Pluto option).

Now this activity combines two of my favorite things: sewing and stars! The Stargazing Sewing Cards are a great way to learn about constellations and help with your child’s fine motor skills. Even better: you can download these cards for free!

Now of course no trip to outer space is truly acheivable without taking your very own rocket ship! This activity at Science Sparks is a great way to learn about the science of pressure and rockets. But if getting messy isn’t really your thing, you can always go with the classic Balloon Rocket Ship.

So there you go guys! Great space activities to get you and your child in a Super Nova mood! Now get out there and explore the final frontier!
